If you read the thread you'll see I agreed to cc use to collect points and implement stricter buying...and paying off cc at month's end...

We always use cash for groceries.

We never charge anything that's gone when the bill comes.

It might if she's budgeted, say, $150 and that's all she has with her. I will occasionally see that. People will get to the checkout, watch the total and then start excluding items.

I personally think the best way is to have a written list and then stick to it.

We charge pretty much everything we can on either Amex Blue Cash or Costco Visa. Everything gets paid off when the bill arrives. Those are cash reward cards and we'll be in $800-1,200 range again this year.

I use my bank debit card for most store/gas purchases. I usually carry about $150 cash with me so I pay most under $25 purchases with cash. I use my AMEX via PayPal for online purchases. I use my MC and VISA once a month or so for about a $25 purchase just to keep them active. I have no debt of any type.

Me too. I will spend the same regardless of payment method. This card is great.

Can do that with a credit card too. But I think the point was that the cash makes it a have to situation whereas the cc is more willpower?

I usually pay with debit card because that is what the family bookkeeper prefers.

We have one cashback credit card though. I think we do use it at Costco.

I think using cash for groceries would cumbersome. In fact, I don’t normally carry much cash around.

It might, if they have a limit. It's too easy to 'add a little' to a credit card. The only "impulse" buying I do is if I see something I know I need but it didn't make the list. Especially since I've been unemployed!
