Also if I get too cold in the evening I can just run the van a bit with the heat running full blast for about 10 minutes. Then I’m good for the night. I sat here last night and finished watching the new Grace and Frankie season last night...yeah I binge watched. .

I’m carrying a 4 man tent ...it was too hot to get in the van ... I like to use the website onlyinyourstate.com to get ideas. Also I brought along a box full of books, along with my kindle, and some craft materials to keep myself entertained.
Stepka, did you even mention your size of rig? Minivan? Conversion / self conversion? other?
Do you have a HW heater or outdoor shower ? I use a motoraide, but also do community pools for showers and lap swimming.

I use these sites too...

https://scenicbyways.info/

Much of WY and UT and ID used to allow camping in city parks and fairgrounds. If you get to WY, do use the 'hobo hot springs' in Saratoga. I stop by on my marathon runs PNW to Colorado. But LOVE the Snowy Range (not in Nov - March...) and vedauwoo too (Between Cheyenne and Laramie)

Oooh I just found my next hike on scenicbyways. Thank you.

I’m just in a conversion van and no high roof either. It’s white of course. The back sofa seat folds out into a bed and I have room for kitchen supplies and two small chests of drawers. There is also a bucket for cleaning and bathroom supplies. I keep my night bottle in there and it has a screw lid. I know it sounds crowded and I won’t say it’s big but I feel I have just enough room for just about anything but yoga and dancing lol. It helps that my love life isn’t busy lol. If I want to sit down I have a few different choices...the bed, a front seat, or on the back floor between my bed and the front. Or...outside.

I can bathe out of a bucket with very little water. 1/2 gallon for the smelly parts and 1 gallon if I want to wash my hair first but I’ve noticed that since I stopped washing it every day it’s coming in thicker. The water doesn’t necessarily even have to be warm. I couldn’t jump into a cold bath or shower but with a sponge bath it’s just fine if it’s cold. And I’m toughening up. I love that feeling.

I have rarely ever parked among a bunch of RVs in a wall to wall park because it’s unattractive to me and I’m a very private person. And that’s the beauty of traveling in a van...I can keep it very simple and don’t need to hook up to any services. I have this place in the desert to myself right now and all the room I need to spread out. Other times I’ll stay in town and if I don’t have anything better to do I’ll sit at McDonalds and work on crafts or read a book while I nurse a cup of decaf or hot chocolate. IOW, pretty much what I’d be doing at home, but in a different place.
And yet, you just did exactly that with 6,000 other RVers parked wall to wall for 10 days in the middle of the desert.

I just sent off another US friend today... single gal headed to NZ. Has a Campervan purchased, and no reason to come home...

BTW... while in SW... I really enjoyed western NM. Especially near here.

Live where your income can afford the rent.
Share space if that's required to afford it.
Use the RV when out in the wilderness or parks.

It's not all that complicated.
Figure out your own particular situation.
You don’t speak for everyone else though. I personally have never been impacted by anyone living in a van or rv on the street, in a parking lot, or anywhere else. I can’t say that I would like to live that way for any great length of time, but to each his/her own. People are varied and like/dislike different things. It’s none of my business what someone else does as long as I am not being negatively impacted or harmed by whatever that is.
I do suspect that some people (not necessarily you) simply have an issue with folks who lead a non-traditional or atypical lifestyle, regardless of how innocuous or harmless said lifestyle may be. Anything that defies convention or tradition is often ridiculed or judged negatively.

Maybe you should look into this opportunity if you want to travel, Cloudy.

You could drive all over the country, and they'd put you up in hotels.

Um, I'm retired. I'm not looking for a marketing job, and I don't have the degree for it, and if I did have a marketing degree, that is probably not the job I would choose. But you are welcome to apply.

You're retired? Find something more worthwhile to do than pi@@ing on someone else's parade, Gladys.

BTW, my mother's name was Gladys. I'm an old(er) retired person, and I think that you're too concerned about this. It's not your life.

I'm still watching. Just have nothing to contribute.

Once it gets warmer here I plan on tent camping to try it out. I'm still working on trying to get my cat comfortable with her cage but I think it's a losing battle. Good thing I bought it at a thrift store. There are other alternatives though. One person has an enclosed play area for his.

Actually, stealthrabbit has some good input. Good sites to check out.

I have been looking at vans to buy. There seem to be some good deals out there. I'm planning on getting serious as it gets closer to September when my lease ends. That gives me time to get ready and allows me to buy things in a timely manner.

What other people choose to do or say has no concern for me. The way I look at life, by all rights I should not have survived the car accident I was in so anything after that is a plus. I'll do what I want to with my life, as long as it doesn't hurt another person and what I'm planning certainly doesn't hurt anyone.
