The nurse may not do that even if you pay them... You at least have a lifetime to teach the kids
Exactly, the nurse may steal from you. They did with my dad. So at least with your own kids, and if you brought them up right, they will not steal from you.

Having children with the anticipation that they are your retirement plan is a good way to ensure you don't have grandchildren. How are your children supposed to support themselves, their children, AND their parents? How are they supposed to be caregivers to children AND parents while maintaining careers?
When I decided to have kids, I was really worried about the financial impact. Now that I have a couple, it's really not that bad...nowhere near what I thought it would be. My portfolio is still doing fine.
Before glorious socialism, the standard method of old age security (for the non-rich) was to have a large number of children.
Along comes socialism, and leads you to rely on government instead of your own children. Why not? It's "other people's children" who will be paying the taxes for your benefit. So you can forgo the cost and nuisance of a large brood. But that caused birthrates to plummet at the same time the population of recipients and pensioners was growing.
It is no surprise that socialist countries are in serious trouble. Europe is trying to remedy its baby gap by embracing emigrants from incompatible non-socialist cultures.
That won't end well.
Is that really a win for choosing to have children and hoping for the best?
well, the people who were making that choice are happy so its a win. the children are alive which still seems like a win to me even if they didnt have the best circumstances.

A big part of old age security was never living to see old age.
OMG, how annoying. I can't believe anyone would shame you for wanting to raise your own kids!
But perfectly ok for you to shame working parents? I work full time AND I am raising my own kid. The fact that he went to daycare, and now school, in absolutely no way negates the fact that I am the one raising him.
As to the basic question, I can't think of anyone I know who chose to not have kids for financial reasons. In all cases, the primary reason was a lack of any interest or desire to be a parent. The financial aspect was a secondary benefit, not the reason.
However, I do know many people, including myself, who chose to not expand their family primarily for financial reasons.
I’ve seen a lot of people struggle mightily and having kids. One of my nieces has two kids. And her husband works three jobs, they live with her mom and she works part time.
Our reason was never financial not to have kids. In fact we would have kids but my wife couldn’t carry one safely anymore. Other than that I would have no issues with having a kid.
me and my brother both have 2 kids and last night us and our wives discussed having a third. right now, my brother is having a tough time with young kids ( 2& 3 year olds) so they are leaving against it. finances arent an issue. i would like more children but my wife isnt on board. for her its a combination of the bad experience we had with the 2nd pregnancy and the damage done to her body. the pregnancy and child birth part are a lot easier on the guys than the girls. i guess there is a certain amount of "we are over the no waking up in the middle of the night and dont wish to go back to that."
We had a goal - before having kids, we would pay off our student loans and credit card debt, buy a house, and have new cars with a manageable payment. My wife also insisted that she be making her age in thousands per year. We were just going to have one kid, both for financial reasons and time management.
We realized we would likely never meet all those goals in time to have kids. Then oops - kid coming. then surprise - it is two kids coming.
Since we could no longer have just one kid, we eventually realized we really liked being parents and decided to have another. then we learned the legend that you cannot get pregnant while nursing is completely untrue. Five years later number five made himself known. we were not sure how that happened. I guess it is because birth control is only 99.99% effective. Eventually, even those odds are going to catch up with you.
We struggled at times although I sometimes made a remarkable income (to me). If we had not had kids or if we had only one (or if we managed money better) we would have been and still would be very rich (by my standards - not billions, but likely millions, or tens of millions if we invested well). Still we have lived a rich life so far,and I do not regret not having money. At the same time, I cannot help occasionally imagining what life would be like if we had money instead of kids. then I think about which kid I owuld dispose of for a couple of million $. Nope not one of them.
