Skype is free. You can talk 24/7 on it. Phone calls are so 1990s.
Skype is only for those that also have skype. And if one is working...fagetabout it. Phone calls are far from obsolete, my friend. They are most assuredly necessary and useful, for both personal and work purposes.
I don't have cable nor a landline but i do have internet. However, when i did have a landline, I was only paying 6 dollars. It was Vonage pay as you go plan. The more you use it, the higher the cost. But since I barely used it, it made sense for me to go with that plan. I had my landline just in case I lost my cell phone or I couldn't have access to it. I don't think I had a phone bill larger than 7 dollars. Since I moved to a different state, I haven't had a landline. I may get on again but it may not be anytime soon.

I am considering cancelling my cable, internet, and landline. Having doubts as to whether I could do it long term because I do banking and pay bills by automated payment transfers.
Anyone else made these changes and been succesful?
A good friend of ours did that to save $$$.
He was back with a basic cell phone in a month, with cable and net in 4 months.
He could not do it.
But, if you have a basic cell phone, and can go to free net points around your town for a coffee, and you read instead of boob tube, you might be successful.
I gave up television service over 10 years ago and have been using a cell phone only for as bought as long.
I could probably put up an antenna with a booster to get OTA television but I have no interest in watching TV shows so I didn't.
I do have unlimited internet service through a MVNO (Provider that contracts with AT&T) for 100 bucks per month plus a backup Verison connection (another 50). I use the internet for business so I can't get rid of it. I have no other option where I live. (Satellite internet is not suitable for my needs)
I use a "Tracfone" for calls.
I have Netflix streaming for entertainment purposes.
It's for anyone that wants to USE it. Many have ZERO interest.
This thread is about living without cable, internet, or landline. Skype is a free alternative to a landline. If you don't want to save money using it, and would rather pay for a land line instead, that is fine. But it is an alternative.
We got rid of our landline a long time ago. We are now thinking of ditching the cable because it doesn't seem to be worth the money and the commercials drive us crazy! It's so difficult to try to watch something with the constant interruptions. The internet would be the last to go. We haven't arrived there yet....
