Look for the 1. For example, say you come up to a table with a bunch of socks on it. There are two kinds and one is $12.95 and the other is $7.91. The $7.91 socks have been marked down. They don't advertise this and they do it for everything in their store. If it ends in a 1, I think the deal is that it won't go any lower and it is probably a pretty good bargain.

We first discovered this about 12 years ago when we came across a display of Frosted Flakes. They were the kind that are in a box with two large bags of cereal inside. The price was $1.71 or something like that. We realized that was a great deal and happened to run into one of the employees, who told us about the "1 rule." Since then other employees have confirmed this.

I still find it to be true and we often stroll through just scanning the price placards so that we don't overlook "the 1s."

Hope someone finds this helpful!

Total Wine also uses the 7. BTW, Total Wine periodically has good coupons for wine. Usually you have to buy more than $100 worth but if you have a place to store them you get the best deal I've found.
