Hi, would you please share the best bargain you have ever found, whether it was clothing, food, or whatever item you bought and felt great about having saved a lot? Thanks!!

As I mentioned in another thread, the best bargain we ever got was a puppy from a litter that DH found in a dumpster. We kept the sickliest, runtiest one and she was the best dog we ever had. And we had a LOT of dogs over the years!

Oh it would have had to be our property. We got it for just a little over $900 an acre in 2005, when comparable properties were being sold for $2,500 per acre easily.

My 'good deal' turned into a 'bad habit' real fast...

I was able to buy ONE VW diesel Rabbit for $35 at local auction, then another, and another...(figuring it was cheaper to have an extra car, than to buy spare parts. Now they just keep multiplying (~15 hanging around home; over 30 total spread about other locations). Fortunately they are small, and they 'stack' like Lego blocks. (My friend has over 75 of them and we keep them all in a 'Corral' ) Sometimes Rabbits show up in the driveway with the title in the seat !

I just couldn't pass up the 50 mpg and VERY cheap repairs, tho seldom needed. (Many have over 300,000 miles on them, still very dependable and economical.). So, of course, being mega cheap, I started buying 'near new' tires at the junk yard for $5. One thing leads to another.

I have been very fortunate in seeking out good deals in Real Estate, but that habit is costing me dearly for taxes at the moment. I paid $22k for my scenic homesite, that was 20' deep in blackberries and no view recogized). The assessor has now elected a assign a $300k value, just for the dirt... House is extra The panoramic view of Columbia River Gorge is gonna be tough to let go.

My dearest possession is my down coat I got for Christmas in the 9th grade (about 40+ yrs ago) But, my Bosch mixer takes a close second and it is over 30 yrs old and churning everyday.

I got a really nice Viking sewing machine for $24 last week (It is identical to my favorite I bought in HS (for about $1,000). Thought I needed to get some 'spare parts'. A bad Rabbit habit

I'm going to jump on the pet bandwagon I paid way too much for my doggie, but he's repaid that tenfold in love, kisses and awesome party tricks.

We get bargains every weekend, it's what yard sales are all about. Last weekend was a kewl "moocoo" cuckoo clock for $2. Has a cow that comes out and moos. It's Swiss made, vintage and probably has a value of around $125 to the right buyer once I get it working properly. I routinely pick up old broken mechanical clocks for several dollars at a yard or rummage sale that are worth hundreds when repaired. Since fixing clocks is a hobby of mine, it all works out well.

For overall good deals, we did extremely well buying our house but we also live in it and it wasn't an investment.

I bought a Krups coffee grinder for $1 at a yard sale and used it daily for about 15 years. I still have it, but just got tired of grinding my own coffee.

I also bought a food processor for $10 at a yard sale and it works great.

What kind of auction is that? I have never heard of such a thing.

And where can I get me a wascally wabbit? I only need one

As for my own bargains, I rarely go to yard sales, but happened upon a couple last weekend and found a bread maker for $5.00 and a pair of car ramps for $5.00
