I use skypeout for all my calls. However now I find myself needing a mobile service just for text messageing. I'd rather not involve myself with a contract so what are my options for prepaid?

SOmebody used to make a little gizmo just for texting, but I haven't seen one in probably five years now. I'm not sure there's going to be a good solution for you.

I have a tracfone Motorola V170 phone that has does simple text messaging. One thing I like about this phone is that incoming texts are free. Outgoing texts are .03 units. I try to text with it more than call with it as it saves me money. From what I have heard this phone is far from the best one tracfone offers, but I think it is the only one with the free incoming texts.

I saw some of these phones at Big Lots the other day for $10.

Another vote for Tracfone. I have a different phone than the poster above, but also have free incoming texts, so it might be company-wide.

My phone is our "secondary" cell, and I'm not a big texter (or talker) so it costs me less than $10 per month.

They have also recently launched Straightalk. $45 per month for unlimited voice and texting. If you are a heavy user, that might be the way to go.
