No, quite often there is little correlation between the cost and the performance of the product.

My doctor put me on a prescription that was $235/mo. I was on the medication for two years. After complaining of the cost, he changed the prescription to a $4/mo generic which worked just as well without a couple of the side effects.

Then there were shoes. I would never compromise on good shoes. Then my wife started buying shoes at thrift stores. Great brands, barely used and seldom over $5 and most of them have been comfortable.

Then we always had to buy those expensive spray cleaners and laundry detergent. However, when Tide went over $10 for the liquid, we moved down to Purex and a generic spot remover. Both do as well at a 40% savings.

Yeah, the difference is almost always psychological.

I won't be frugal on a car, meaning buying a used car. I don't want someone else's problems. I looked for a used Sentra two years old but they are about the same price as a new one with the low interest rate incentive. I keep my car for a very long time (10 years) and I know how I've taken care of it. When it's used, I have no idea. It's too big of a purchase for me to take that gamble.
I will always buy recycled toilet paper and paper towels and recycled any other items that are very disposible (paper).
I also won't be frugal on oil and oil filters and other auto parts to keep my car running as long as I can.

My kids' educations. Private schools the whole way. I'm broke but they're doing well and I wouldn't change it for a million bucks in the bank!

My bed.

I can sleep anywhere. On any surface. For almost all my life, I've had the cheapest mattresses possible. I didnt know any better.

Then, three years ago, I tried a memory foam mattress. Omygosh. Suddenly I understood luxury. Now I have a great memory foam mattress -- and a 5" memory foam mattress topper -- and bamboo sheets. I've never gotten used to the awesome feeling. My last thought at night and my first thought in the morning are how great it feels to be in that bed.

I could give up all my other possessions but I want to be buried in my memory foam bed....

1) Bed - I use to purchase the least expensive mattress/box spring available and they just weren't comfortable. A good night's sleep is important. On vacation once I stayed in a hotel that had a Tempur-pedic...it was very comfy and I slept so well (best night's sleep I had in along time).

My research: I just couldn't bring myself to spending that much money on a bed, so I found Tempurpedic Mattresses Vs. Angelbed Mattresses (Save over $1000). This is where I purchased mine.
(Comparable to the Tempur-pedic for less money.)

2) Shoes: I am almost always on the go, so I need to have comfortable shoes. MBT's have been well worth the money...great investment for me!!! Now Skecher's Shape Up's are available for a lot less money I'll try them when my MBT's are worn out.

3) Toilet paper...don't like the cheaper, sandpaper
