Default it lives

I also seen this bug, florida - new smyrna beach - looks like a large bumble bee, it also bit me but not as a sting - it was it like a scratch mark of a bite and it bleed once it pierced the skin. When I chase it off me, it came back to try again. It was at the least the size of a 1/2 dollar coin

Did it look like this? Big....nearly two inches long? menacing? Mostly black?

I have just learned about these things: Cicada Killing Wasp. Look them up and read about them. Truly remarkable creatures in how they operate.

Go and buy the cheapest hairspray or lacquer you can find and take it with you on your walk as soon as you see it spray away. The wigs will get sticky and it will drop like a rock and then "Ta da and STOMP." I am highly allergic to mosquitos and I have a can of cheap hairspray (unscented) on my deck all summer long!!!

i was out swimming and this huge black bug started swarming around my head and then i got out of the pool cuase it was fallowing me and then came after my mom but the best advice for killing it is drown under the water for a long time and that will make it weak and then birng out and kill it with a shoe after i killed it i looked it up and it is definitley a deer fly....if it constantly trying to go after you and you are near a wet area RUN!!!!!!!!......bye

Oh no what chased me was no fly......the reason I found this post was because tonight I was chased by a big bug, could hover, about a round as my pinky, totally black, and it's stinger was huge in diameter but very sharp looking.....the thing chased me big time, any move I made it was right on me......It was not a fly that's for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a mud dauber to me -- is this it? Pitch black, but sapphire blue where the sun hits?

They are not testy unless you get too close to a nest. You can always call an exterminator...
