Very cool, but I too am clueless. I've never seen anything quite like it. Looks like some kind of lily maybe.

I think it is a Gloriosa (Climbing Flame Lily)

I'm not sure because I don't know what zone you are in. I am in coastal SC and saw it the other day at Brookgreen Gardens (http://www.brookgreen.org/brookgreen_overview.cfm - broken link). Such a beautiful flower. I really appreciate your answers. Thanks again!
