Default Can anyone identify this flower?

I photographed this flower on a canyon trail in Simi Vally, California. Can anyone identify it for me?

It's beautiful. My first guess, because of you location, is something in the lupine family. I've sent it to a more knowledgable friend to see if he can ID it.

I'm pretty sure it's a variety of California lupines. You can email the ppl at the Theodore Payne Foundation in Sunland, which collects & preserves Southern Cal native flora for help in identifying it further.

Thanks everyone. I've finally identified it as being Foothill Penstemon heterophyllus heterophyllus.
