Cucumbers, Yellow Squash, a few onions to saute with the squash, My tomatos are starting to turn red, should be picking a few in the next two days. Well........red is not entirely accurate, these are "Cherokee Purple" tomatos, they make the best tomato sandwich you have ever tasted!!! This is the south, tomato sandwich is a summertime ritual, a big favorite in this neck of the woods.

I love tomato sandwiches, too...but I'm in the North...sorta. I first made one after reading Harriet the Spy...one of the awesomest books for kids ever! I got lettuce and a couple of blueberries and raspberries. My veggies are getting bigger...but I'm still waiting on the bumper crop.

yesterday I picked a bunch of grape tomatoes, a couple of squash and a few beans. If we don't get some serious rain in the next week I am guessing this year's garden will be about like the last two years, not anything left much after the middle of July. I do think my tomatoes will survive and the herbs are still looking pretty healthy, but I don't want to see our water bill!

since last I posted, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, red, white, yellow onions, garlic, my first cherokee purples have slowly started coming in, have had tomato sandwiches (one of the biggest reason for me having a garden) for the last two days, my first planting of corn is tasseling, a couple of sunflowers are starting to open up and smile at me, poblanos, anaheims, orange, yellow, and red bell peppers, jalapenos are all adding flavor to different dishes and salads. I've been getting lettuce for a while. Won't be more than a week and I'll be getting brussel sprouts. Dang!!! I love it when my garden is producing, I eat better now than the rest of the year when I have to resort to hunting or grocery stores to eat. Also, with my tomatos et al, we can and freeze a lot of stuff, in winter I truly enjoy a nice hearty venison stew.

Because I was busy yesterday, we got some rain and a million ohter things I didn't get to the garden until this morning. What a difference a day makes: picked about enough green beans for a couple of meals (this is about end though) a couple of plastic containers full of tomatoes, and 3 kinds of squash. So far we have no cukes, I have no idea what the problem is. We have the blossoms, the bees and the plants look super healthy. I think I am going go to try and pick enough wild blackberries to make a dessert for tomorrow.
