I picked 2 very little tomatoes and 2 squash: one zuk and one yellow. They also were not very big, but it is still exciting. The first of the year always is special.

I'm having a very green and good for me i hope veggie soup. There is a little kelp, garlic and better than boullion. From the garden, I put in kale, beet greens, baby beets, garlic chives, sage, marjoram and garlic scapes. This is my first year growing my own beets! They ARE easy!

The packet I got has a mix of white beets, those white and red striped beets and red beets. So far I've only had the white and striped ones. They seem to be a tiny bit bitter. Is this normal? Some bitter things are really good for the body and liver, I think. So hopefully this is one of them.

Yesterday I roasted some beets and greens on the grill and had them with lamb and brown rice. My friend's dad gave me a pepper plant and I ate two peppers. I've also had like 6 blueberries so far and a lot of mulberries! It is summer!

today I picked 5 more maters, and now I can see why they were not turning red like I hoped: they are highbred purple. Actually more of a dark pink. I have to admit, I am an old crab and always bitching about something: last year and the year before I bitched because we had no bees, so no squash or cukes. This year I am bitching because we have so many bees, I can't get near the plants to see how many we are getting. Guess some people are never satisfied.

Sauteed beets and beet greens with cilantro, green pepper, rosemary and winter savory in a salad. The salad also has lime juice, avocado, garlic and tomato not from the garden.
