Will you consent to a breathalyzer?
Seems like you would have noticed the cantaloupe vine there before now
It was wrapped around and behind the tomatoes and was just a little vine. I couldn't even see it til I pulled the tomatoes up. Of course I wasn't harvesting anything at the time as the okra was on the other side of the garden. Now, will I take a breathalzer test, that depends? Not today, after I start watching college football and the Razorbacks versus the Aggies.
You are just the person I have a question for: I want to use the seeds from the winter squash we had the other night. I think, if I remember, you said to wash them, let them dry in the sun or whatever and then freeze them for the summer. Is that right?
Maybe it was a gift from a bird. Or a squirrel stole a slice of cantalope and dropped the seeds in your garden.
That's what I would think-----a bird or rodent carried it over and 'planted' it for you....or it could have easily stuck on the bottom of a shoe and have been transplanted there....

I am sure it is something like that. I have had volunteer veggies before but this was just such a shock. Even though I thought it might have to do with the skins and seeds I use in the garden, I only do this until I actually plant and that would have been before cantalope season I am sure. Anyway, it has made for a good story. The family will enjoy it when they are all here next week, even if they will probably think about locking me up somewhere. They have been thinking about that for a long time.

Somethings I freeze, somethings I do not. Corn freezes well but most melons don't do well with cold. Dry them out, put the seeds in an envelope, mark what they are. I have a box I use for seeds that I don't freeze. Acorn squash, and/or Butternut freeze fairly well, Yellow squash not as well and I don't freeze tomato seeds. Okra freezes well also. I don't do peas and/or beans, when I did, the Deer can not resist. If I do not plant peas and beans the Milorganite keeps them out of the garden.
Several years ago an interesting plant was growing in one of my outdoor pots, and it turned out to be a purple corn. The ear grew only to about 3-1/2 inches, but the plant sure looked pretty. Thing is, I've never planted corn in my life. So THAT was a shocker, alright.
