I have some shrubbery indoors and I use a lot of fertilizer for them. I started smelling an ammonia like smell. Should I contine to use a general fertilizer indoors or should I use a special "indoor" formulated fertilizer?
eviel,
Fertilizer in pots builds up in the soil and must be flushed out once in a while.
Take the shrubbery outside on a nice day and slowly flush the soil out with a garden
hose slowly for about 8 minutes at least.
SOme people use a drip hose and leave it on all day long.
You flush out all the salts that acculate in the soil, and I
would advise using jsut a diluted amount of fertilizer on them, just
put a very small amount in and use it every time you water.
THe best fetilizer in the whole world for potted plants is Foilage
Pro.
You buy it online, and it is really concentrated, so you only
use a little bit every time you water.
It contains all the minerals that the plants would get if
they were planted outside.
Check it out online.
Problem is your fertilizing too much. The excess nitrate not being used by the plant is breaking down in the soil and releasing the smell.
