A new push mower can be purchased for $150. When I was a kid mowing lawns, 40 years ago, I bought a new Sears mower and I think I paid about $150 for it because it was nicer than the $50 Briggs and Stratton. As it turned out, the one I bought wasn't that great of a mower and it had a lot of repairs. Can't really go wrong with a $150 Briggs and Stratton. Even if it last 3 to 5 years, you got your money out of it and you could just buy another one if it quits.

I used to run over to the National Hardware Show in NYC and buy 50 to 100 cheap 3 1/2 hp B&S mowers for about $25 each - that was back in the early 1970s. I also sold Toro mowers. Many of the Toros came back to me for repair; I saw only a handful of the cheap mowers. Cheap was better!
