It's me - Carly - an old friend here. Had to re-register.

My question:

I've spread some composted manure on a small plot - I intend to plant some flowers. How soon can I do that after spreading the compost?

What sort of manure (horse, cow, chicken...) and how old is it? If it's already composted I'm guessing it's well-aged and probably OK to plant in now.

I'm no expert but I've always heard that fresh poop needs to be mixed into the soil and age/compost for about six months at least, depending on the climate. But aged (one year) or commercial manure is OK to plant in right away.

Cow

I bought it - didn't collect it from a farm or anything. Not fresh poop.

OK - so I can plant right away then - thanks for your response on this.

Purchased compost should be end product of composting, and is not fresh manure. It is usually safe to use as a soil amendment right out of the bag.
