help identify tree or shrub-2014-01-25-16.42.25.jpgI haven't had any luck with identifying this tree/shrub...can anyone out there help? I have one in my front yard and one in the back. Can you eat the fruit?

Looks like Japanese Plum, Loquat with immature fruit.

Thank you! I looked up Loquat and the wiki picts match. Now I can find out what kind of care it needs, although I haven't done anything going on 3 years now and it is doing fine.

well, if it's doing well already you can probably continue doing whatever you doing without much change or worry. the fruits are eatable when ripe---though some grafted cultivars are better eating (sweeter, less tart)and larger then others and seedling plants will vary as well. it's regarded as one of the hardiest of "subtropical" fruit trees and it's lush large evergreen leaves make it an attractive garden plant even if you don't like or don't get the fruits (it flowers very late in the year and in cooler areas the flowers and immature fruits can be killed by winter frosts).
