I've been thinking about getting some lemongrass or citronella plants to deter mosquitoes. Has anyone had any success with them? Does the smell of the plant ever bother you?
I was thinking about planting a few anti-mosquito plants in some large planters near my patio. I don't mind the look of lemongrass, but I don't want it to spread anywhere.
If you are doing it in hopes of achieving a large degree of success, in my experience, I would say forget it, unless you actually like the plant. As a mosquito magnet, I can honestly say for me nothing but staying inside at dusk particularly.
They don't really work in my experience. I was considering buying some more to try again this year and decided not to bother. I have heard it's a good idea not to eat bananas during mosquito season. Doesn't help me. I'm a "tasty treat" for mosquitos no matter what. Mosquitos love me and pollen hates me - just more reason to stay inside in the A/C.
Has anyone ever tried that garlic spray that's supposed to repel mosquitoes?
