Two tiny tomato plants caught my eye 6-8 weeks ago. Not unusual, but these two little plants are outside the entrance to one of our casinos, up against black fencing, located near the outside smoking area. For weeks, I've watch these plants grow and thrive - Bright green, bushy and healthy! Two weeks ago, I noticed a casino patron watering them with a paper cup. I always glance that way when entering the casino, and last week HOORAY they had blossoms. Someone put a couple of makeshift stakes from a tree branch near the plants. It warmed my heart that others appreciated these plants. Last evening, I visited the casino, glanced the way of the tomato plants, and was horrified! They were gone, and in their place was fresh black mulch. How could they?

Oh, that's a sad story. I doubt they ruined the "very expensive landscaping." Especially since someone staked the plants, they wouldn't have looked like weeds to passers by. It would have been really nice to just leave them be.

On another note, I wish it was that easy to grow tomato plants in my yard!

Actually, their landscaping budget must be very small. Doesn't look too elaborate...just some black mulch, monkey grass and a few shrubs here and there.

It was just a guess on my part, the Casinos around here have very expensive, elaborate landscaping along with a crew of landscapers/gardeners that keep it all mowed and beautiful.

Sounds like a movie in the making: "Attack of the Tomato Killers".

So called professional landscapers want everything to look as unnatural as possible. If it doesn't look like their own handy work, they will get rid of it....sad.

Oh c'mon... there si nothing natural about a random tomato plant at a casino...
Having it there probably DID look unnatural, though!

Just pray they will find life somewhere else and maybe next year you can plant a few away from the casino. It appears the tomatoes were trespassing.. It might be time to form an organization like Pita, but call it pitp.
