Default Ever Grow Something Different?

We live in Oklahoma and are growing a pineapple in a pot. We keep it indoors during the winter, of course, and put it outside during the summer months.

Our priest from Sri Lanka showed us how to twist the top off a pineapple and let it dry a few days and then put it in soil to root. That was five years ago.

A pineapple is finally sprouting.

Its an interesting plant. The green "leaves" were once the size of the tops you see on a pineapple in a store.

He told us but I forgot how do you make it bear sooner. We have waited 5 years for this pineapple! Anyone knowledgable on this? We were told to put epsom salts to make it sweeter.

Fascinating. I had good friends from Indonesia that grew amazing fruit and flowering plants both indoors and outdoors in the Hague (Netherlands).

One of the things they shared was to occasionally water the plants with very dilute blood water.

I did try it without much success, but I have grown many outdoor plants inside with moderate to high success.

Your pineapple looks fantastic.

Congratulations on your pineapple!
I've only done that once, with the kids at preschool, but it is a cool feeling for sure.
Along the same theme (but not as difficult), we've grown the tops of carrots in shallow basins to enjoy their lacy green foliage. An ear of corn in a shallow pan will sprout nicely, too. And of course the proverbial sweet potato.
But a pineapple is a special accomplishment.
