Are there any?

Back when I lived in Ohio, there was this amazing tree nursery called Wade and Gatton - the kind of place a retail buyer could go, that actually grew their own trees and let the common retail person buy them.

Here, all you can find are wholesalers, landscapers who will get you the wholesalers' trees (and they never want to do things outside their own little box), and retail establishments that are really just "garden centers" that don't specialize in trees, and usually have just leftover, half-dead or rootbound stock, and never anything outside the 10 most common trees planted in the area.

Can anyone recommend a GOOD place to buy trees around here that actually has a selection greater than October Glory Red Maple and Pin Oaks?

I would suggest reposting this on the Baltimore MD site. Also on Facebook- Howard County has a "best of Howard County" page- where people request or post local company/service recommendations. You'll have a better shot on either of those sites since they are local.

Try Patuxent Nursery in Bowie. I've gotten a few trees from there and they have a large, diverse selection of trees. Also look at Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville. These are probably the best two nurseries in the area when it comes to selection in my opinion.

I'm seconding Patuxent. If they don't have a plant in stock, they will get it for you. They've planted some of my trees.

Also check out the Lowes GC in Hunt Valley. It is a big box store, but the selection may surprise you.
