Is anyone else having problems with their new hose end sprayers?

I bought a MiracleGro hose end garden feeder earlier in the summer, prefiled with MiracleGro. It leaked profusely at the hose end connector, not from the part where the hose screws in but at the connector part where it connects to the sprayer itself. I contacted MiracleGro and got no response from them so I just returned it to Walmart for a refund. I then went to a local hardware store and purchased a very similar Ortho Dial hose end sprayer and the same thing is happening--leaking profusely where the hose connector is attached to the sprayer, not the hose. Neither sprayer came with a rubber gasket to be inserted as both already have a rubber gasket in the connection part. I even watched the Ortho online video for their sprayer and it shows the guy just attaching the sprayer to the hose and away he goes. Thinking it might be the hose itself, I even tried it on a brand new hose I purchased just this summer and the same thing happened---leaking profusely. Has anyone else had this probem with newly purchased hose end garden sprayers?

Here's a picture of an Ortho Sprayer. The leakage is between the red and the white part of the hose end connection.

I thought it was because of Home Cheapo but I think these company's haven't manufactured it well yet. I believe they only been in the market for a few yrs. They need to hear complaints and perfect it still.

I learned what was causing it on my end... I was twisting the hose too fast and angled it too hard as I was spraying. Need to be gentle and smooth. Horrible design. Mine was the Cutter Backyard Bug spray. So its not just Miracle Grow

I bought a good one at Walmart, its a no name brand.
10 bucks, no problems with it, easy to use.
Go back and buy a no name brand, darn if they don't work better on some things.

You're probably getting high pressure back flow from either a defective nozzle connector that connects the hose to the sprayer or a bad washer. Try not to turn on the faucet full blast and see if it still fly's in your face.

Ahhh, Bingo, forgot about this one. Yeah, I used to turn the faucet on to the max too quick. Once I started doing it slow, the nozzle didn't break off "at the beginning"

But it did break off during the spray process which then has nothing to do with the faucet being turn on. It's the angle of how you're holding it which is causing the disconnect and break

Thanks for the replies. I took the sprayer back to the hardware store I bought it from. The clerk took it outside to test it and it did the same thing for her--leaked profusely when she attached it to a hose and turned the faucet on. After she pulled the trigger mechanism it stopped leaking but resumed when she released the pressure on the trigger. I decided to just take the refund she offered me.

As for my water pressure, it is always pretty low. I have well water with its own pump and the pressure is always low. I can't run more than one sprinkler at a time in the yard---pressure drops too low when divided between two hoses and two sprinkers.

I found an old Ortho dial sprayer in the garage--it must be 10-12 years old, at least, and Ortho doesn't make this style anymore. It has a trigger mechanism but is designed differently. I hooked this one up to the hose and it worked as it was supposed to---no leakage at all.

One old saying that will never go out----"They don't make 'em like they used to."
