I'm pretty much "done" for this season. Just stocking up on supplies for next spring (preemergent) and focus on my mowing for remaining 3-4 weeks of growth before it starts to go dormant. Very satisfied with the level of growth I'm seeing now from this falls overseed.

Plan is to focus on weeds next spring/summer, and then do another overseed next fall, and I should be in pretty good shape. I hope.

When I ran my mower earlier this spring/summer, it would kick up dust clouds. No more! Now I actually can mow lines in my lawn!

I've identified my weeds, so now I can research best way to eliminate over the winter. I have:
Crabgrass
Clover
Black Nightshade
Common Mullein
Dandelion
Ragweed
Common Purslane

Oh and the previous owner randomly planted patches of ribbongrass in random beds in the yard. I removed the beds, leveled it all out, tilled, seeded, and a lot came back. It gets mowed down with the regular turf grass, but interested to look out over a nice lawn, with 2' patches of "white grass". I'll need to address this before it spreads as well.

Month of October for us mid Atlantic folks is ideal for Fall fertilizing cool season turf type fescues.

If you only fertilize one time of the year, for optimal results, make Sept/October the time to fertilize your lawn.

Just fertilized mine in time for the weekend rain and the results will be impressive in the coming weeks!

I mowed the yard this past Sunday for the first time since putting down my stuff on the lawn (2 weeks). Tonight is Weendesdsy. I can still see every wheel mark from when I mowed over three days ago. That's how dense the yard has become now. Really happy with how this has turned out! I'm going to hit it again in the spring with preemergent, then overseed the heck out of it, more alfalfa and soybean, and then blanket it all with compost. That should get me there for the golf ball test. It normally took 4 Costco or Home Depot yard waste bags to mow over the summer. This time took 6 ½ and not all of the seed has come up yet.

I'm still mowing once a week. The growth is slowing, but it's still there. I was out last night doing some mowing in a few areas of my yard.

Pretty much getting down to 60 degrees as a high so not much time left. Leaves are starting to cover the grass, so time to shift to winter preps. Everywhere I look, the seed came up pretty well. Pretty much every spot I put down seed has significant growth. A few thin spots remain, so I might hit those areas with seed in the spring. Preemergent everywhere else.

But almost time to change the oil in the mower and part it for the winter...and drag the snowblower out.

I mowed mine for the first time in 5 (?) weeks or so this past Monday. OMG the bags filled up with clippings every 3 minutes or so. But with a fresh haircut, the yard looks NIIIIIIICE. No crab grass, no poa annua, maybe one dandelion that grew unchecked due to the tall grass last month aahhahaha. Going to put down winter fertilizer soon and store the remaining Milorganite for next Spring, as well as putting away the hoses and sprinklers.

One thing I noticed, though, while mowing my backyard is that there are tunnels and raised sods in my lawn. Is this due to moles? I was like.. wtf is this as I walked around staring at the raised dirt and mulchbed. How do I get rid of these vermins???

Start treating your lawn with a grub killer. When the grubs are gone, so will the moles.

Yup. Mid 70's this week. Got some good overnight rain two nights this past weekend. I've pretty much stopped all irrigation weeks ago. Grass is still nice and green and growing just from natural rain and dew.

I actually need to mow again today. Problem is the leaves are dropping pretty well now. Another week or so and I probably won't be able to see the grass anymore. Lots of trees in my area even though I took a bunch down.

Temps still in upper 60's, and been raining every night.

I've used my mower more the last 4 weeks, than I did all spring/summer.

Yeah was in the 80s the past couple of days now to the seasonal 60s.

Going to put down another round of fertilizer this weekend...try to get 3 in each fall. This time of the year with slower growth helps in building strong roots.
