You just had to jinx me huh? lol

Had a thunderstorm with torrential downpour for literally 3 minutes.

Was enough to cause a little garden flood.

This is why I learned to plant on mounds with clay soil..

May 27, 2016. 2 Summerlike Hot days in the 80s! Another 2 coming today and tomorrow.

Moisture, light, heat, weeds weeds weeds.

I only use the cardboard for the perimeter.

Proof it works...and looks tacky. But who cares!

I found a seam!

Damn holes. lol

What happens when you don't do it. Ugh

Another option... Hay. Has to be done for the Potatoes anyway.

They are looking awesome!

Garlic.... Before those weeds grow more and go to seed, I need to pluck them!

Bell Peppers doing good

Eggplants.. So far so good. Remember...Eggplants for me has been a challenge each year! Should I do a soil test while they are in there? Hmmm.

Tomatoes still young but greening up nice. No flowers on any of them yet.

Broccoli Rabe flowering? 1st year growing them so I Need to learn more. Are they ready to harvest already?

Had to YouTube it but it's official... My 1st Harvest of the Year.

1st year planting Broccoli Rabe. Apparently I planted them too late and they bolt faster I read.

See the flowers? All happened in last 3 days when it's been in the 80s. But still should be edible.

Mmmmmm

So young and already I have to worry about this.. Was hoping it would stop few days ago but doesn't look like it did... Something eating the Pepper leaves. Aphids. Also noticed Gnats everywhere this year!

Ugh

Challenge #1 begins

So I google "Organic Pesticidal Soap" and found out I can simply use Canola oil and water...

Then I Youtubed it ...

Then I sprayed it...

I'll let you know if I see a difference or not.

Hi Cambium,

Everything looks great! One thing; I do believe that it's not aphids that are chewing those leaves like that. Aphids are sap suckers as far as my experience, I believe that it's something else that is chewing the leaves. If you do have aphids though, don't hesitate to look into using herbs that attract ladybugs, or waiting for nature to take its course-you'll start seeing ladybug larvae on your plants at some point in the near future, and they'll gobble up those aphids for good (at least until next year).

Keep up the great work!

NJ

Hi, thanks! You're right! It's not aphids. They don't make holes like that and it's made pretty fast. I have a ton of gnats around but I don't think that its them either. I don't see any bugs on there. Strange. No beetles around.
