Not Golden Pothos, but Jade Pothos, the one that is all green with no gold/yellow color.

They sell what ever the suppliers can offer to them. The vast majority of nurseries are just the retail outlets for the suppliers that have to juggle supply, demand, conditions, the growing, harvesting and transportation costs, and the relationship with the retail outlet. So it will vary by year.

The all green pothos you are talking about may not be a pothos but rather a trailing philodendron. They look a lot like pothos to most people but solid green in color.

I've been in this winter to get some new houseplants, and I didn't see any. If you want specialty houseplants, the best place to get them may be online. Usually everybody sells the variegated pothos, and they may not think there is enough demand for the plain one.

You can also check online. HD and Lowes will let you see what is in stock in any of the stores.

Why do you think only the variegated are widely available?

Just call any Garden Center and ask if they can order one for you. If a grower has any available they'll generally ship a special order with their regular delivery..

Can I ask Lowe's or Home Depot if they can order some for me?

I bought a spiral leaf Croton at Home Depot in 2010. That plant is still going strong, and even outlasted the marriage I was in when I bought it I recommend buying plants there.

I just saw a green/golden pothos at my local Lowe's this afternoon. So I'd say, yes, they do sell them.
