Unless you are talking about a large amount of it, I find it's easier just to pull it up by hand when you see it. Next spring, apply a good pre-emergent to keep it from coming back.
I've used this with success for small patches since the grass grows pretty wide. However a good application of Step 1 (I use Agway brand) or a spray works best. Took me almost 3 seasons to completely rid my lawn of it.
