Hello,
This plant came up this Spring and I can't remember what it was that I planted there last year.
Does anyone know what it is?

Looks like some kind of volunteer tree.

Looking around the nearby area, do you see a tree with leaves like this?
(I want to say horse chestnut)

Horse chestnut is my gut reaction too.

Depends on where the OP lives...

I see, she's in Chicago. Could definitely be horse chestnut then.

Here's a link with pics - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aesculus_hippocastanum

OP, about a quarter-way down that page, there's a photo of the nuts breaking out of the burrs. These things are not small, do you remember anything like them in your neighborhood?

If we're right that this is a horse chestnut, you DO NOT want it next to your house. It's a very attractive tree, but it's also a big one. Unless you have a large lot, you don't want it at all.

Except the horse chestnut leaf is serrated...also the shape is 'off'.

Thanks everyone for all your help.
One of my neighbors on the next block over has one of those horse chestnut trees I think?
It's really tall with big leaves and does grow some type of fruit?
I'll be ripping out this thing first thing in the morning.
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some perennial I planted and forgot about.
It seemed unusual for me since this plant came up right over my public.
Thanks again for all your help folks.
Have a great Holiday weekend.

I'm betting there are plenty of squirrels in your neighborhood. They do tend to redistribute things from over there to over here, and they like soft ground that is easy to dig. Like flower beds.
