I like to keep plants and colorful flowers on my porch but this one I have no idea 1)what it is or 2)how to take care of it.

H have had it for maybe three years and so far the only thing I've done is feed and water. but it has these dead leaves.... I've tried to pull them off but they're stuck on pretty hard.

Do I need to saw or cut it back because it is starting to look pretty ugly.

I am NOT a gardener.

You may be giving it too much water.
And it could probably use a larger pot.
Or even could stand to be divided and re-potted.
That's a lot of work for a non-gardener.
I am not a gardener, either, but I have divided and re-potted the things, and given away the extras.

But you can cut the drying fronds off close to the stock.

probably a yucca. Get a pair of scissors or hand clippers and cut off each leaf as close to the base as possible. See if that makes it look any better. Then as each leaf eventually dies, cut it off.

Needs a bigger pot and dead stuff trimmed off. It would be a very attractive plant then.

Ok, I'll get a bigger pot.

I just hope I can get it out of the pot sort of intact.

I have several, it is a yucca. If you start with the lowest leaves and give them a good downward yank, they will pull right off, proceed from there upwards to remove the dead leaves, they will not pull off without pulling the ones beneath them, but they do come off.

You may have to beak the pot. I don't like pots with necks narrower than the body, I'll bet that thing has massive roots. Keep that in mind when you buy a larger pot!

I have repotted my yuccas and cut away a third of the roots before putting it in the new pot, does not hurt the plant at all. I have even cut the large stems down, repotted the stems and they put on new roots, they root very easy, nearly every cutting takes. Largest I did was a piece six feet long and over 4 inches across, I put it in a bucket of water and it put on roots with in two weeks. The op can cut the yucca out of the pot without breaking the pot and it won't harm the yucca.

Agree with others. Looks like it's outgrown its pot.

Repot to a larger pot (or divide it and just keep one half of it in the existing pot). I've had plants like that before. I used scissors to just cut off dead leaves.

Yucca. They occasionally get a nice big flower stem.

That's a plant from very dry desert, so you might look into water requirements to make sure you aren't over-watering.
