I think I've tried all of these. I agree pretty much with Steve here except I have a lovely stand of Japanese Painted Fern and I do very little for them. I think every gardener has an exception.

I had problems with Painted Fern in zone 7. They were on the Eastern side of the house, too.

The Gerbera Daisies did well in pots. I have no idea why, because they baked all day in the sun. I had to water them twice a day, though.

Squash? Someone actually has a problem with squash?

I don't think it's the veggie itself but the critters who ruin them.

Any organic grower will. I tried for years before realizing the only solution to squash vine borers is chemical pesticides.

I think my peach tree is kind of fun, but it's been ravaged by weather every year I've had it. Blooming too early and then all the flowers die twice, and this year absolutely destroyed by a hail storm. I'd probably not plant another, but I won't be tearing it out of the ground either.

I guess the Native Americans who survived on corn, beans and squash were lucky too
