If forced to pick between these two I would go with the candle because it looks nicer than the coil. Neither are very effective against the mosquitos.

Thanks, but as noted in OP, not concerned with looks, "effectiveness".

I understood, put another way, they are both equally ineffective, so in that case I would select the aesthetically nicer one, which is the candle, IMO. If you really have a mosquito problem neither will work, nor will planting lavender, nor citronella bushes. I am a mosquito magnet ever since I was a child. Nothing and I mean nothing works unless you are considering a professional service to spray your property. Skin so Soft from Avon has its' market share of fans, as well as the deet containing repellents, but for an outdoor area, a fan to keep the air moving in the area is probably even more effective than either of your choices.

Just looking for one or the other when sitting outside on the porch in the evening.

Perhaps another person will feel differently than I and can be more helpful to you. Sorry, but I can't support either choice no matter where you want to use it.

Neither work well.

Deet is the best repellent for mosquitos.

Nuts is correct, neither one works.

I've heard the ThermaCell works. https://www.thermacell.com/

A fan is very effective, as noted. Can you install a ceiling fan on your porch? That's what I've always wanted to do. My friend used to have a very large stand fan (something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/MaxxAir-3...&wl13=&veh=sem) on her porch and it worked well...but it was loud.

Insects can't fly in wind so put a couple of oscillating fans on the porch. Put screens up around the entire porch if the mosquitoes are so bad.
