Well, the hardy Cyclamens that were in bloom in August, continued their splendor until
wind-gusts threatened to shred them, so brought inside in December, still dancing now.
Next,
the ornamental Kales are a real plus as they faithfully last 'til Feb, when early Spring-flowers
awaken...
Too H. niger Jonas started blooming end of Nov., & there's at least 8 other cultivars to be added.
of course,
not technically in bloom but the foliage of 8 Heucheras r otherworldly, so I count them as Winter-blooms.

Too, plan to add 4 other kinds of Winter-flowering plants, like evergreen yellow mahonia 'Charity' if that will like it here.

here various penstemons (penstemon x gloxinoides) have a long blooming season---had some blooming yesterday but I can't see them today because they're covered with a surprise snow fall, LOL. my acacia dealbata and camellia reticulata, some gorse (ulex) are also in bloom plus some stray flowers on various grevilleas but all are now looking like flocked Christmas trees at the moment.!!!!

I have got firethorn,heather and camellia.I had doubts about them when I planted them first but they have grown faithfully over the winter. I have stored the more delicate plants in the wooden shed that I bought from a garden shed store ([url]http://inthebackyard.ca/[/url] ) behind my garden. I would like to try growing potatoes over the winter.Has anybody ever tried them yet?

FWIW, I have potato plants growing in my unheated greenhouse---they are unintentional left-overs from when I had some growing BEFORE we built the greenhouse on the same site AND packed gravel for the floor on top of where we thought we had removed all the potatoes before we started building. obviously we didn't and whatever tubers were left managed to grow right through the gravel and send up shoots nd even flower last summer---talk about "universal will to become", LOL!!!

My heather is blooming now, white and pink. And a heather variation is not exactly blooming, but has its' winter colors of pink and yellow; in summer it's green. My skimmia still has blooms on it as well.

for most of us the answer would be the same if you live anywhere from say Colo to the east coast and north of maybe Texas or LA. Now we do start seeing the he crocus and a few other bulb flowers to the end of Feb or first of March, but that is a long time from now.
