Place some stones and pebbles on top of the soil. ... They can't dig through stone and the stones won't hurt the plant.

I've got a "big blaster" type of large squirt gun ready for use by my recliner chair. Kitty knows if she jumps up on off-limits places, what will follow moments later. All I have to do now, is start to pick up the squirt gun and she scoots away. I use the same method for squirrels that try to climb the pole to a bird-feeder.

There was a territorial war going on a few months ago in our master bathroom as 2 of my cats got into a dispute regarding who my husband "belonged" to. Turned into a regular peeing contest.

Problem solved. A bit on the pricey side, but effective. Also work when you are not there.

I second pine cones. Good prickly kind that hurt to pick them off the ground without gloves. The only thing that worked for us in all our pots.

Post on the cat forum.

Just build/buy a lattice cover out of wood. Like a lattice raised roof.

Not a matter of political correctness. And NEVER safe for a cat, who never asked for the idiot humans to be their "owner" then changes their mind.
