I bought a house about a year ago that has a mature peach tree. Last May, just before the peaches were ripe enough to eat, squirrels ripped every single peach from the tree and took a single bite out of each one.

How can I protect the tree from squirrels this season? I'd love to be able to eat even a SINGLE peach from my own yard!

My neighbor go so sick of it he ended up taking down the tree. It was sad to see but I understood the stress and hassle it caused. I kept telling him just put a net over it. Guess he felt the net would be a hazzle to harvest with or a sight for sore eyes? Good luck with yours, hopefully you find an answer.

BTW - I don't know how farms do it with their crops

If they have to, they kill destructive pests to keep them out of their crops.

Scorched earth is the only way tree rats can be defeated. Burn every oak, walnut and pecan tree within a 2 mile radius.

Yes, take down the tree or just enjoy it for it's beauty. I managed to get some apples last summer by picking them all the day I saw the first few with bite marks, and letting them ripen in the house. You can do that with peaches, but it means checking them daily, and if several of the buggers are around, they may still strip it while you are at work one day. A net can help with cherries or figs that get eaten by birds, but believe me, squirrels will get in/under it.

Unfortunately, this is Texas, so my whole yard is full of pecan trees... they're also useless because the squirrels eat the green pecans.

Has anyone used a net here? I'd be willing to give it a try for at least one season. Is netting sold at garden stores or is it something I'd have to special order?

Any kind of netting is useless against squirrels, they just chew through it. Their teeth are strong enough to chew through even wire netting.

Plant more peach trees. Eventually you will have more peaches than the critters can eat

We had 10 acres of peaches, Oregon.
We never had problems with deer or squirrels. We did have a problem with a volcano blowing up

First World Problems.

Put one of those fake hawk or owl statues in the tree to scare them off.
