I saw one today and nearly jumped out of my skin.

The thing was an inch and a half long, walking like he owned the yard. Ugly and had some white on his back, like he had gotten into a paint splotch. I don't know what to do, as I read they are night feeders and will destroy my flowers and yard. Never, ever saw one before. Anyone have any experience with this?
