Hi all. I haven't posted on this forum before because i know nothing about gardening, and therefore have nothing of use to offer anyone. I have a question, however, and I though that perhaps a gardening/landscape expert here might have a bit of knowledge to share. I have about nine 8-foot sections of antique iron fencing, 6 iron posts, and a gate. All of the pieces are a bit rusty and would need to be sandblasted and powder coated, which I think would look very nice installed around our front walkway; my husband, however, feels it's too much trouble and would just rather sell it. Does anyone have an idea how much I should ask for it? It was manufactured by the Stewart Iron Works company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Thank you in advance for any advice you might have to offer.

what type of home do you have? If it isn't an extreme contemporary look and the fence components are in otherwise good condition, you may not even need to refinish them

Do you have an architectural salvage company near you? You can see how much they charge for theirs, see how much they will give you for yours, or know the person who can refurbish and install the fence.

Some sanding, a coat of Ospho, metal primer paint and Rust-o-leum should make it good enough to use and that's something you can do yourself that won't cost much. That is, if you want to keep and use it yourself.

Autobody places do sandblasting all the time. Call a couple and ask them where they have it done. It wouldn't be very expensive.

I surely wouldn't get rid of it, and the fact that you don't want to you shouldn't, you'd probably end up regretting it later. Make it your project and keep it.

I would love to see pictures of it!
