hello, this is my first ever trial at gardening .
I recently got a small gardenia plant, and it is in a small pot so I put it indoors and water it every other day, usually there is water remaining in the plate under the pot. it loses a leaf or two a day, and we noticed some unopen flowers, but they don't seem to be growing for the past 5 days or so. we have also noticed that the leaves are becoming less of a dark green in color. we live in the middle east and it is very hot outside, so we keep it in our living room in the shade, with no direct sunlight and cool fresh temperatures.

is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
thank you.

Could very well be too much water. Hold off on watering until to soil feels kinda dry to the touch. Most of my indoor plants only require a little water roughly once a week on average.

If it's very hot and dry, it may need more water than LIcenter's area, but it shouldn't sit in water in the bottom like that. You can water from the bottom only and the plant/soil should take it up. When it stops absorbing, stop watering. How long until the next watering you'll have to figure out by trial and error. You might also want to ask someone about the light requirements. No matter how hot, if it needs some sun and is not getting any, that could be a problem.
