So I just put sod down in my small yard 17x19 here in Southern California. Grass is at 3 1/2 inches some spots are turning yellowish most is still green. Can anyone give me some good advice on treatments to keep grass green and turn my yellow grass back green? Tall rescue grass some shade for half of the grass. I water my grass 3x per day. New to all things garden! How often should i water grass? How high should I let it grow? How low to cut the grass? How can I keep my grass green are my main questions

I don't know where you live, but depending on outside temps you should be watering that at least 3 times a day, for about 10 minutes each time. You could also put some Nitrogen fertilizer on it.

Temps in the 70s?

Some shade...hmmmm.

How long has the sod been down?

How long are you watering it?

3x per day? Sounds like way too much water.

Fertilizer can kill new sod. My new sod was down for a month and the lawn care people applied fertilizer to the entire lawn. All of the new sod went yellow and died within a few days of application.

I'd wait a couple of months before applying fertilizer, and even then I'd do a soil test before applying it.

If the sod has air pockets between the sod layer and the ground layer it will die off in those areas. Make sure the sod has solid contact with the underlying soil.
