Can somebody advise me of the machine and mechanized tools that can help me digging a trench and a shallow pond in my garden? Something not too expensive.

I have used a rental ditch witch before, it had a trencher for the ditch at one end, and a bucket at the other for digging. A walk-behind trencher would be cheaper to rent, but for the pond would require hand shoveling after doing several trenches side-by-side. Our local rental place charges $115/day, the ride-on with backhoe is $485/day. I did my pond and trench by hand but it's only about 3' x 6' and 24" deep, and I was younger then.

We used one of these for an irrigation system at a soccer field.
