I must admit, I'm scratchin' my head over your "Dogwood" photo....
Flowering pear maybe?
Had thunderstorm today and the wind pretty much took down the dogwood petals in the back yard. Almost looks like snow out there. Hopefully the tulip poplars will start blooming soon. Last year they were loaded with blossoms.

It is probably the bush form of dogwood, not the tree with the large pretty white or pink flowers.
My MIL, from Arkansas had a dogwood tree in her yard. I never really knew about them until I saw hers and really like them. But alas they can't tolerate the cold of Minnesota, red buds too are out of the question for me too.
The bushes get tiny white flowers, the red twig dogwood bushes are popular in Minnesota but nothing compares to the dogwood trees that are in milder climates. I do have a comforter with dogwood tree flower and a silk flower arrangement with dogwood, thats the only way I can get my fix for them.
