I have a large area of land with pretty steep slope, ranging from 20-40 degrees. I hope to plant rows of shrubs onto that area. My problem is how to get access to all the areas to plant as well as to water.

Initially, we intended to terracing the plot to make small parallel walkways along the contour of the slope for access. However, it would require big retaining walls as well as probable riprap.

Another options would be wood boardwalks along the contour to provide access.

I just wonder if there is any other solutions that we didn't think of.

Thanks

If it's a really steep slope in places maybe flat stepping stones set level into the slope at intervals, like sets of rising steps for a pathway built into the slope?
