we have a front lawn and we have a 1/4 acre backyard all fenced in and we mow it using our riding mower , I also have flower gardens and vegetable gardens too .
There are lawns where I live but I refuse to do any work with lawns or ever touch a lawn mower again for the rest of my life. I live in a high rise apartment tower with extensive flower beds and landscaping trees and shrubs on all four sides of the building as well as roof-top container gardens, and there are lawns on three sides of the building. I'm delighted that I have free rein to manage and do anything I want with all the flower gardens, shrubs and trees but the owners of the property have hired a team of strong, efficient young men to come do all work on the lawns or to do any pruning and topping of the bigger trees as instructed.
we just bought our first house with .6 acres. I know it's not a lot for some on here, but living in your mother in law's house with about 30' to road in front, and about another 30' in the back this is a significant upgrade. The person we bought the house from mowed with a push mower, but I got lucky and got my dad's old John Deere lawn mower for nothing.
Of our 5 acres, 1 acre surrounding the home is lawn, trees, bushes, etc. All mowed with a tractor mower, weekly, by someone we hire to do the job of mowing, edging, tree trimming and is automatically watered by our sprinkling system from our well every night so it is plush. Trees as high as 50 feet. Other 4 acres is in a pasture mode, and we mow it every 5 weeks or so with our yard man using our tractor/mower to do so.
In our late 80's with a 3,700 sq. ft 4 level luxury custom contemporary home (not 4 story) we also have a housekeeper come in 3 days a week. We handle the 3 sets of stairs, using chair lifts to move between levels.
As you can see, we have a lot of house and yard for elderly people, but have made adaptations such as a yard person, housekeeper, and chair lifts to make it possible to live here. House is in country, directly across the county road that separates best part of our small city from the county/country areas.
You forgot the category: I have a lawn, but wish I didn't. I'd like to rid myself of all the grass and plant mini clover and creeping thyme. And moss, though I have some that grew on its own. It's my favorite thing out there as it stays small, looks lush, and changes colors with the seasons.
I'm working on the mini clover and just started on the creeping thyme, but I doubt I'll live long enough to not have grass in the lawn.
I voted "I have a lawn but have someone else take care of it". I mow it, but I have a local landscaping company who handles weed control, aeration and feeding.
In part of the back yard i do. I gave up with the way i get rain and don't get it and the bugs it just cost too much to keep good grass.
