Time to sharpen up the eagle eyed shopping radar.

Lots of stores have beautiful flowering plants, azaleas, assorted bulbs, orchids, all potted and high priced for Mother's Day. Some of those plants won't sell and will end up on mark down.

The local discount grocery (Grocery Outlet ) often gets plant overruns and I've bought some really nice high quality azaleas and miniature roses there for cheap. Those plants come in after "flower holidays".

I've seen some really good bargains in regular stores that have leftover plants but aren't really set up to care for them.

Good thinking....would love to have an orchid or two, and some perennials.

For Mother's Day I got mine something different. She doesn't want anymore "stuff", likes cut flowers but they die so quickly, has enough houseplants. I got her a huge two foot tall tomato plant. It already has flowers so will get tomatoes way earlier than the ones she plants in her garden. Now she can think about how much we love her each time she picks a tomato!!
