I have a long stand of very full, tall Leucothoe. Beautiful bushes. Never any problem. Over the years they have grown tall and bushy. Not leggy and thin. I need to cut them down a a foot or two . Hate to waste, love to recycle and hope to root the cuttings I take. Thinking of mainly giving away successful good looking cuttings as they come along. May try planting one in my own yard if I like another spot for another bush. Any suggestions for length of cuttings to root successfully? And rooting mixtures that have worked well for you? Any other tips I need to consider? Thanks.

You cut it at the base and cut the top back about a 1/2 inch above a bud. The generally don't take well to sever pruning.

Thanks. I was reading one can cut a foot off the top and then someplace else instructions on cutting just 3". Really like this nice bush that never had a problem, always looks great. Wild animals have nested and wintered behind it with nice cover. So I wouldn't want to discover I had damaged it.

Thanks again.
