I do not have this plant yet. The photos were taken by a friend on the roadside in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. Thus, I decided to find out its name and go from there.

Maybe you or your friend can collect some seed pods from those roadside plants and plant them. Seeds from that location would be better suited and acclimated to the island climate there if you live on the island too.

It is a wildflower in Florida, escaped from gardens via birds no doubt.
I bought a guara version that had deep pink flowers, very pretty but did not re-seed like the lighter pink version.
Needs little care and not much water.
