We are having to fill our feeders more each week too for the flights south it seems. My DD wondered if the sugar water in our feeders were sweeter than the flowers the hummers like. I told her I didn't know but they sure are filling up on junk food if it is so! We sure miss them while they are gone for the winter.

Last evening as hubby and I were on our front porch, I was thinking how much I will miss the hummingbirds when they migrate! I have never had a hummingbird feeder before this year; I added a second one last weekend because of a territorial hummer on my porch!
I was surprised, very pleasantly surprised, when hubby told me last night the birds need a bird bath... He has noticed the birds "bathing" in the street puddles in front of our house on the rare occasion we get rain.
The migrating kinds are normally coming to the feeder in my area in Texas mid March. Some stay here all year around.
The year-round resident here is the Buff-bellied Hummingbird. Both Ruby-throated and Black-chinned Hummingbirds are also present during all months, except June and July.
We have some that stay year round but we get bombarded with them about now. I counted something like 18 in rotation on the feeder. Looked like a swarm of bees.
