Anyone here own a Simplicity riding mower with the Briggs and Stratton Professional series of engines? I'm in the market for one, and wondering what the reliability has been like for you. The other mower I am considering is the Husqvarna with the Kawasaki engine, which also appears to be highly regarded.

And ask.

Probably made in the same factory, as most of them are, then re badged for retailers. Looks awfully over priced for 42 deck. $1000 Craftsman with same deck will do the job and last forever. Mine did. 15 years of hard work.

They are both good machines and Kawasaki engines have great ratings and are often compared to Honda engines which are the gold standard of small engines.

I own a Cub Cadet with a B&S professional engine and it’s been great, however it does use an awful amount of fuel for a twin cylinder and the newer, fuel injection models are said to be a huge improvement, in many ways.

My biggest complaint with our lawn tractor is that I wish I went for a model with a fabricated deck rather than a “stamped deck”. The difference in the cut is and clippings is visibly different and much better with fabricated deck, however that might not be a priority for you.

I have a Toro MX zero turn with a Kawasaki engine and it has been flawless for five years now. I also have a grass trimmer by them, and it has also been perfect. Highly recommend.

I would take the Kawasaki engine every single time.
