I recently bought a house with big lawn but it is full of weeds. I tried Scotts weed and feed but surprisingly new weeds grew instead of Bermuda. What is the best way to turn this around?
I was thinking keep putting weed and feed and also spread Bermuda seed every 6 weeks? It seems previous owners were just mowing the lawn and never fertilized/weed care for healthy lawn.
Pull weeds when you see them. Start mowing early so the weeds don't have a chance to get up above the still-dormant Bermuda grass. Fertilize with a good organic fertilizer. If you can keep the weeds from making seeds, each year you will have fewer weeds.
In Houston you ought to be able to grow San Augustine grass which is more effective at choking weeds than Bermuda.

Or...you could use the even more natural method: don't call them "weeds".

I used to feel bad because our lawn is a mixture of clover, dandelions, wild violets, etc. But then I learned how bees rely on the dandelions as their first resource for nectar, and clover has pretty flowers and is edible, and well...frankly, the wild violets are pretty. Plus...I'm 60+. I don't care that my lawn isn't the green green grass of home. lol

Many "weeds" are actually very nice looking groundcovers,. And they work better for shaded areas where grass struggles to grow.

Years ago, I used MSMA every spring on my Bermuda. It is a broadleaf post-emergent weed killer that was great at doing away with Dallis grass and dandelions. Truly a one and done process.
I always preferred Bermuda to St Augustine. No chinch bugs, much less water, darn near bulletproof, and loves full sun.

I was told by some landscapers (and also saw on several youtubes) Not to put any fertilizer or feed down with grass seed if there were any weeds because the weeds will take off first and make it harder on the grass. They said put the grass seed down, wait a few weeks then feed. Oh, and these were particularly talking about bermuda at the time.

I learned in master gardener class, it’s better to do these treatments separately, because the optimum times to apply fertilizer and weed killer are not the same. When you apply both at once, the results will not be as good for either.
