I keep getting emails tempting me to buy fall-blooming cyclamen, but I don't know when they are supposed to be planted. Should they be planted in the spring, or some other time? I don't want to buy them now and not be able to plant them for months. (It's cold here now, so I would not plant them right now, anyway.) I'm not interested in having them as houseplants. Thanks!
If you want to grow fall to early winter blooming cyclamen you should plant them in mid to late summer while the bulbs are still in their summer dormancy. If you want to grow spring-blooming cyclamen you plant them in late winter while the bulbs are in their winter dormancy. The bulbs can tolerate freezing temperatures down to +24 degrees fahrenheit, but anything colder than that there is a risk of them freezing and rotting.
