Interesting. We have a lot of squirrels, but I have never had them bother my tomatoes. Finally defeated them from getting into my bird feeders by inverting half of a 50 gallon drum on the post that supports all the feeders, neither they or the raccoons can get past that!
The only varmints that get into my tomatoes are possums and cardinals. I always have so many tomatoes that I don't mind if they get a few.
Your post made me laugh out loud. I phoned my neighbor and said, "Are you feeding the squirrels?" She told me she did but in her backyard. I let her know that the peanuts don't stay in her backyard. I did see a carpenter bee in the cage and was glad we made it with treated wood. I hope the bees pollinate them.
I have treated wood on my deck bannister, and the carpenter bees love to drill holes in the underside of the top rail. They don't shy away from treated wood. I even had one drill into our new front door trim, and it's made of "engineered" wood (basically sawdust and glue).

I can show you a fence made with treated lumber, that the carpenter bees have tunneled through. My BF's deck and porch roof is PT, and they bore into it constantly.
I know "they" say that carpenter bees won't mess with PT wood, but "they" are wrong. 100% wrong.
Not that I necessarily recommend this, but when growing up in Brooklyn, NY one of our neighbors trapped every squirrel on the block and released them at Prospect Park. People couldn't leave their windows open without them getting inside, so the relocation effort was welcome. Even though there are squirrels on surrounding blocks, they did not cross over onto our block. And this is going on over 15 years after the fact now.

I have two squirrel traps that I've been using since October and have caught 41 of the little tree rats. Take them to the park and release them. Instead of seeing 8 running around we are now down to seeing a couple most days. The damage they have done to my wifes car is insane. Every plastic component under the hood has been chewed on.

I have heard that the number of squirrels babies is based on the population in the area, so they don't exhaust the food supply. More squirrels in the area mean less new babies, while the opposite is also true. Will be interesting to see if they repopulate the area where you have been removing them.

It will be interesting to see what happens over time. Hopefully they stay low in numbers.
